Orthodontic treatment planning is becoming popular in ortho/ restorative cases. The aim is to restore the patients smile by moving teeth in optimal positions prior to carrying out minimally invasive restorative treatment. Simple orthodontic treatment is within the remit of GDPs and puts them in a good position to carry out simple orthodontic treatment as well as ortho/restorative treatments where they are fully in control of the case.
This course is designed for the beginner who wants to incorporate orthodontic treatment in their practice. It also caters for dentists who already carry out orthodontic treatment with 6MS, Cfast etc but want a better understanding of treatment planning so that they can plan and execute their cases with more confidence.
To enable the GDP to diagnose, Treatment plan and carry out orthodontic treatment for mild/ moderate cases as well as plan and execute treatment for ortho/restorative cases.

Fabricating and bonding fixed retainers
Day 1
9:00 am – 9:30 am – Registration
9:30 am – 10:30 am – introduction to fixed appliances, diagnosis and treatment planning
10:45 am – 12:30 pm – Practical exercises: orthodontic assessment, IOTN scoring, Space analysis
1pm – 2pm lunch
2pm – 3pm – lecture – treatment of mild/ moderate cases – presentation of different cases
3:15pm – 4:30 pm – Interpreting and tracing lateral ceps
4:30 pm – 5:00 pm – Q + A s
Day 2
9:00 am – 10:00 am – treatment of complex cases/ management of ortho/restorative cases
10:00 am – 11:30 am – Practical – Direct bonding of brackets upper and lower arches
12:00pm – 1:00pm – Arch wires and sequencing. Typodont model exercise – taking a moderate crowded case through to completion
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm – lunch
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm – continue with typodont model exercise
3:15 pm – 4:30 pm – debonding brackets, retention protocols, fabrication of multistrand retainer wire ( Practical) and bonding.
4:30 pm – 5:00pm – Q + A ’s
