Shakil Umerji

Shakil graduated from Glasgow Dental School in 2015 before completing his Dental Foundation Training in Eccles, Manchester. He has undertaken Dental Core Training in General Duties and Max-facs positions as well as working part-time in general practice.

He is now working as an Academic Clinical Fellow in Endodontics at the Liverpool University Dental Hospital.

    Hi Sri, we will hopefully have a detailed article on this topic soon. However, I will try to give you some general guidance.

    Research can be carried out within both primary care practice, as well as hospitals, and there are many avenues you can look into depending on what level of research involvement you would like.

    If you’re looking at hospital based practice, then you can look into a specialty training pathway, ideally via (but not limited to) an academic route such as an ACF. On the other hand there are also primary care research pathways available. I would suggest looking at the NIHR website, as well as looking into primary care ACF training positions. Finally, you can also consider an MSc programme which would have a research element.
