A comprehensive, hands-on program focused on the diagnosis and management of mucogingival deformities around teeth and implants. Through a unique problem-solving approach, participants will learn step-by-step surgical protocols for harvesting soft tissue grafts, performing coronally advanced and tunnel flaps, and mastering the latest Tunneled Coronally Advanced Flap (TCAF) technique.
Understand the biological and anatomical principles of soft tissue around teeth and implants, and how differences in soft tissue features apply to clinical practice.
Modify and augment soft tissue to support long-term periodontal and peri-implant health.
Perform soft tissue harvesting techniques from the palate and tuberosity, including key clinical considerations for each donor site.
Master the Coronally Advanced Flap (CAF), conventional and novel tunnel approaches, and the Tunnelled Coronally Advanced Flap (TCAF) technique for moderate to advanced gingival recession cases.
Apply decision-making strategies to select the optimal technique for each clinical scenario, based on case prognosis and local and systemic factors.
Gain proficiency in microsurgical instrumentation, flap management, and suturing for predictable, esthetic outcomes.
Prevent, recognize, and manage complications and adverse events in soft tissue grafting.
Apply crucial post-operative protocols and considerations following soft tissue grafting procedures.
Avoid implant failures and long-term adverse aesthetic outcomes and manage implant aesthetic complications using soft tissue grafting protocols.

Who is this Perioplastic Surgery course designed for?
This course is designed for clinicians looking to develop their knowledge and practical skills in soft tissue surgery around natural teeth and dental implants, with a strong focus on predictable and aesthetic outcomes.
What will the hands-on training be performed on?
Day 1 practical training uses pig jaws or plastic models for tunnel and TCAF techniques. Day 2 uses plastic models to practise soft tissue grafting at implant sites, including the treatment of aesthetic complications and papilla augmentation.
Meet The Educator
Lorenzo Tavelli, DDS, MS, PhD is a periodontist, clinical researcher, and part time Lecturer at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He received his dental degree from the University of Milan and completed a three year residency in Periodontology together with a Master of Science at the University of Michigan. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and previously served as Director of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Tavelli’s clinical and research activities focus on microsurgical and minimally invasive soft tissue grafting procedures around teeth and dental implants. His work has focused on the integration of high frequency ultrasonography and biologic markers of wound healing to assess soft tissue perfusion and optimize surgical outcomes. He lectures internationally and has authored more than 160 peer reviewed scientific publications. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research. His contributions to periodontal and implant research have been recognized with several international awards, including the 2024 ITI André Schroeder Research Prize, the 2023 American Academy of Periodontology Earl Robinson Regeneration Award, the 2022 AAP Foundation Nevins Clinical Research Fellowship, the 2021 Goldman Clinical Research Award from the Italian Society of Periodontology, and the 2020 AAP Balint Orban Research Award.
