Unit One — Principles of Implant Dentistry and Treatment Planning
Discuss the origins of implant dentistry and its importance as a current recommended treatment option
Explain the consequences of tooth loss so that these can be applied to patient discussions
Discuss and explain endosseous Implant features to allow learners to make informed decisions regarding the type of implant use in clinical practice.
To be able to recognise an implant as the ideal treatment option and apply this to clinical practice.
Unit Two — Surgical Principles and Clinical Day
Understand the basic principles of implant surgery, demonstrate the skills taught when treating patients safely and appropriately.
Understand the specific instruments and tools of implant surgery so that the candidate can set up clinical practice in the correct way.
To expose the candidate to implant clinical practice so that they can treat their own patients in their own clinical settings.
To be able to recognise and deal with surgical complications ensuring the competent delivery of treatment.
Understand and acquire Guided Bone Regeneration skills.
Unit Three — A Week of Mentoring at the Centre for Implant Dentistry
To acquire an understanding of implant treatment, the stages involved and able to apply these to patient care
To be able to identify when an implant is indicated, provide a sound treatment plan and provide the implant therapy (on the learner’s own patient under mentoring)
To expose the candidate to implant clinical practice so that they can treat their own patients in their own clinical settings.
Unit Four — Restorative aspects of Implant Dentistry
To be able to prescribe the correct type of restoration and apply this safely and appropriately to the patients treatment
To understand the different types and classification of implant restoration and how they relate to treatment planning
To understand the equipment and materials used in restoring implants and be able to use these safely
To be competent in implant restoration techniques so candidates can restore in a competent manner
Be able to assess the occlusion of a patient and determine how this impacts on treatment
To communicate effectively with the dental Lab to ensure a successful patient restorative outcome
Unit Five — Implant Maintenance and Management of Problems
Understand the periodontal considerations when treating an implant case and relate these to clinical practice
To recognise Peri mucositis and Peri implantitis and be able to manage these complication
To recognise the various complications that can arise and to manage them appropriately
CBCT Masterclass Levels I & II — Aims and Objectives
Radiation Physics in relation to CBCT Equipment
Radiation Protection in relation to CBCT examinations
Apparatus and Equipment
CBCT image acquisition and processing
Principles of CBCT imaging
Principles and practice of interpretation of dento-alveolar 3D CBCT images
An update on radiological anatomy of teeth and jaws relevant to CBCT
An update on dental and maxillofacial pathology
Radiological interpretation of dental and maxillofacial diseases
