    MSc Dental Implantology

    • This part-time programme is for dental practitioners who would like to develop their theoretical knowledge and practical clinical experience of treatment planning, surgical placement, restoration and maintenance of dental implants.

      The programme's design allows you to gain experience of using dental implants and prosthodontics elements related to dental implants within a supervised environment, while treating patients through a series of hands-on exercises. You will build your knowledge through distance learning modules and study days. You will also have the opportunity to carry out a research project or literature review and prepare a dissertation.

      We aim to produce caring, knowledgeable and skilful practitioners who are competent in the provision of the surgical and restorative dental aspects of dental implant treatment, within the limits of the individual clinician.

      This modular programme is divided into three sections - certificate, diploma and MSc. All students are admitted to the MSc in the first instance but can choose to exit the programme after completing the certificate or diploma.

    Year one
    Five theoretical and practical modules are delivered over a minimum of six study days during year one, as well as through distance-learning material and self-directed study. You will also attend clinical practice placements at the Dental Implant Clinic in Bath. During the clinical practice placements you will diagnose, plan treatment and carry out implant placement under supervision on pre-selected patients who will be provided for you. After completing year one, candidates can exit the programme with a Postgraduate Certificate or carry on to year two.

    Year two
    A further five modules are delivered over a minimum of six study days in year two, through distance-learning material, self-directed work and work-based study. In addition, you will again attend clinical practice placements. After successfully completing years one and two, you may exit the programme with a Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology.

    Year three
    After a further year, an MSc will be awarded on successful completion of a dissertation.

    Annual Fees:

    • UK: part-time (three years) (MSc): £5,500
    • Overseas (including EU): part-time (three years) (MSc): £8,100
    • Channel Islands/IoM: part-time (three years) (MSc): £8,100

    Additional Fees:

    • Bench fee: £7,125 (yr 1); £7,125 (yr 2); £1,700 (yr 3)

    Fees are subject to an annual review. Please budget for up to a five per cent increase in fees each year.

    Course Requirements

    Minor oral surgery experience is desirable but certainly not a prerequisite for entry onto the course. In line with current directives, delegates will be required to complete a log book of the cases they treat and observe. Regular short examinations and case presentations will be carried out to monitor the development and progress of the delegate.

    The  Course will provide an opportunity for further instruction in basic and advanced implant surgical techniques at an institution we believe to be world class.

    Delegates will be asked to bring their own patients to the live surgery sessions where they will be able to place and restore implants under direct supervision. Dr Richard Brookshaw will also provide one to one mentoring outside of the course by arrangement.
