This lecture will cover the clinical steps necessary to achieve optimum bonds between an adhesive posterior overlay to enamel and dentine and dentine, predictably.

Kushal is a Consultant and Honorary Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital and a Specialist in Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry.

He qualified as a dentist from the University of Bristol in 2005. He was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital in 2014. He has a particularly keen interest in treatment planning of the failing dentition, managing complex restorative and implant cases and in Dental Implant Surgery.

Since graduating, Kushal has won over 13 national and international awards for his commitment to dentistry. He was the Chair of the Young Practitioners Group for British Society of Prosthodontics (BSSPD) between 2014-2018 and has held various positions within national dental societies including the British Society of Periodontology (BSP), British Society of Prosthodontics (BSSPD) and Specialist Registrar in Restorative Dentistry Group (SRRDG).

He has organised various national and international study days and conferences, as well as being actively engaged in lecturing, teaching and research. He has published in over 20 peer-reviewed journals.

In 2017, Kushal co-founded the Advanced Centre Of Excellence (ACE) to teach and provide post graduate dental education to dentists. In his spare time, he has a passion for music, plays various musical instruments and enjoys travelling.

Management of Enamel Opacities

  • Title: From Cloudy to Clear: Management of Enamel Opacities

Synopsis

This lecture will outline the underlying causes of enamel opacities, and explore how this knowledge can aid treatment planning. It will outline a range of approaches to managing these opacities, prior to introducing the use of resin infiltration. Further detail on how to identify suitable cases for resin infiltration, and the technique involved, will be provided.

Aim – This course will discuss the management of enamel opacities including the use of resin infiltration

Since graduating as a dentist in 2011, Helen was awarded a Master in Clinical Research degree (2017) and completed her specialist and consultant-level examinations in Paediatric Dentistry in 2018 and 2022 respectively. Her PhD (2021) was funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to develop a utility measure for children with dental caries, which is suitable for use in economic evaluation. She completed two further postgraduate diplomas in Conscious Sedation and Health Economics respectively, and a postgraduate certificate in Higher Education.

Helen has a passion for clinical academia; she founded the award-winning CONNECT trainee-led research group and is the Past Chair of the Teachers’ Branch of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry. Helen examines for the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) examinations and completed the prestigious Lady Estelle Wolfson Emerging Leaders Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She is the former editor of the International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry Quality Improvement Briefing, and sits on the Scientific Advisory Board at the Journal of Dental Research: Clinical and Translational Research. She was an invited keynote speaker at the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry conference in Maastricht last year.

Helen is currently a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at Newcastle University. Her clinical and research interests lie in health economics applied to oral health, particularly dental caries and developmental defects of enamel. She has accrued over £1 million in research funding, published almost 50 peer-reviewed research papers and was awarded the President’s Prize from the British Society of Oral and Dental Research last year.

  • Innovator in adapting and perfecting the injection moulding technique for optimal results

  • Academic Clinical Fellow at UCL, focusing on research in digital dentistry and artificial intelligence.

Junaid, a distinguished clinician with a Master’s in Conservative Dentistry, received the UCL Dental School Commemorative Prize for Excellence in Prosthodontics. A former lecturer at UCL and a visiting lecturer at UCL Eastman Dental Institute, he is now an Academic Clinical Fellow, with research interests in digital dentistry and artificial intelligence.

Junaid is a recognised Key Opinion Leader for Kuraray and has a deep understanding of adhesive dentistry and biomimetic principles. He often shares insights on postgraduate programs to the next generation of emerging dentists on the latest advances within adhesive and restorative and implant dentistry.

Passionate about education, Junaid takes pride in imparting knowledge to the next generation of dentists. His passion for education has lead him to undertake further training in becoming a better a clinical educator and is now a recognised with a fellowship in higher education. His philosophy has always been to try and share his passion for dentistry to his students by breaking down and simplifying complex dentistry through repeatable and predictable teaching exercises. He hopes to continue with this goal through the Institute of Perio-Prosthodontics.
